20080922 Cairns

Thanks to my host family for sponsoring and inviting me for this Cairns trip, this is my first trip to country other than Japan and Singapore. We were visiting their child, Hidemaru in his dormitory in Cairns, he is only primary school standard 6 but he is studying abroad in Australia.

Cairns is locating in Queensland, it reminds me of Langkawi with the nice beaches and the plants there is very similar to what we have in Malaysia, mango, coconuts..and even Penang tree.

Our flight was from 名古屋中部国際空港 by using JetStar airbus.
The custom of Australia is very strict about the food that you carry upon entering the country.
Because of the food that we brought (for Hidemaru's dormitory), we were detained for half an hour and we open all of our luggage to let them examine and being question over and over.. -_-

We are lucky to be offered by the dormitory (Windmill College) to stay in their guest house.
In return, we were helping the chores in the dormitory, like cleaning and cooking.
There are a few staffs who are on Working Holiday in Cairns, all of them are nice people.
This college is for Japanese kids studying abroad in Cairns and they are from different age and schools.

Life in Cairns is very relaxed and the pace is slow, the shops are closed around 6pm.
Main food is burger and meats.
We call the people there Aussie, most of the people there are plump.
The typical fashion there for guys is short pants, t-shirts and beach sandals.(some of them walking bared footed on streets). For gals is also rather simple, not as fashionable as those in big city.
The English they speak is a bit different than American, sometimes I find difficulty in understanding them. Like "Today" they will pronounce it as "To Die". "Are you coming today?" will sound like "Are you coming to die?"

We were there for only 6 days, not many places we went but as conclusion the nature there is very nice. We went to Zoo, Kuranda(the tropical rain forest), and the Trinity Beach.
